Lakshmi's origins

I took a big chance this morning. I tracked down Lakshmi's original owners -- via her vet records -- and left a voice message to let them know that she's happy and in good health, and asking to know more about her origins. Mostly, I was afraid that I'd get a call telling me that they wanted her back, but I figured I probably wouldn't hear from them at all.

Kristen called me several minutes later. She was in tears as she told me how hard it had been to give Lakshmi up -- the family had a forced move and tried desperately to keep her, but couldn't. That's how she ended up with the "rescue family," who had liked Lakshmi's look but didn't really know how to care for her.

(And that's precisely why so many huskies end up at the pound, in shelters, and with rescue groups.)

Kristen was so happy to hear that Lakshmi has landed in a good and loving home, and we laughed together over her personality quirks and bad behavior. Apparently, Lakshmi has been stealing paper napkins and shredding toilet paper all her life.

I've sent Kristen some photos of Lakshmi taken since she's been with me, and have offered to let her visit if she's ever in my neck of the woods (she lives several hundred miles away).

I also now know where Lakshmi came from -- from an Iditarod musher in Idaho! I've also been told that Lakshmi was the runt of her litter (she's 60 pounds!), and that she is indeed a Siberian-Wolf hybrid. That freaks me out a little, though I've already lived with this dog a full year. It explains some of the issues we've had, and gives me something to look out for moving forward. Lakshmi's mother was a purebred Siberian, however, and Lakshmi definitely takes more after her mother. ;)

So I was all worried over nothing. Kristen had been thinking about Lakshmi often, and wondering what had happened to her. She's very happy to know that Lakshmi has found a loving home with me.

And, at long last, Lakshmi finally has a Dogster page!
